การเปลี่ยนประโยค active voice เป็น
passive voice
- สลับกรรมเป็นประธานและประธานเป็นกรรม เลือกใช้ pronoun
รูปประธาน (I, he, she) และรูปกรรม (me,
him, her) ให้ถูกต้อง
- เติม by โดย by
+ ประธานที่มาเป็นกรรม เรียกว่า real agent คือ
ผู้กระทำอาการที่แท้จริงในประโยค passive voice
- เปลี่ยน
verb เป็นรูปแบบ to be + V3 โดย to be จะต้องปรับให้สอดคล้องกับประธานเอกพจน์ /
พหูพจน์ และ tense ต่างๆ

การเปลี่ยนเป็น passive voice ในกรณีอื่นๆ
ประโยคที่มีทั้ง direct และ indirect
object อาจใช้ indirect object เป็นประธาน
หรือใช้ direct object เป็นประธานก็ได้ แต่ต้องใช้ในรูป to
+ direct object
ประโยคที่มี
phrasal verb กริยาวลี เช่น looked after ให้เติม by หลังกลุ่มคำ เป็น was looked
after by

passive voice ใช้ get แทน be ได้ เช่น He got hurt in the game yesterday. เขาได้รับบาดเจ็บในการแข่งขันเมื่อวานนี้
การใช้ passive infinitive (to be + V3 เช่น to be given, to be shut) ในประโยค เช่น He is sure to be cut from the team. เขามั่นใจว่าถูกตัดออกจากทีม
ประโยคที่มี linking verb (appear,
become, feel, get, seem, sound, etc.) เปลี่ยนเป็น passive
voice ไม่ได้ เช่น He
was become our boss. ไม่ถูกต้อง
ละเว้น by + ประธานที่มาเป็นกรรม
ในประโยค passive voice ได้
ในกรณีซึ่งเป็นที่รู้กันว่าใครเป็นผู้กระทำ, ไม่ทราบว่าใครเป็นผู้กระทำแน่นอน
หรือไม่ต้องการเน้นผู้กระทำ เช่น Firework was invented in China. ไม่ทราบว่าใครเป็นคนประดิษฐ์ดอกไม้ไฟ
